Carrie Klabunde

Carrie Klabunde, Ph.D., is an epidemiologist in the Health Services and Economics Branch of the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. She has held this position since 1997. Prior to that, she was an NCI cancer prevention fellow. She has also served as staff assistant to the North Carolina Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control, as assistant director for ambulatory care at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, and as management engineer with the Hillsborough County Hospital Authority in Tampa.

Dr. Klabunde received her Ph.D. in health policy and health services research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and M.H.S. and M.B.A. degrees in health services and business administration from the University of Florida. Currently, she conducts practice patterns and outcomes research studies, including directing research projects for the International Cancer Screening Network and national and regional studies of colorectal cancer screening programs, policies, and practices. She coordinates nationally-representative surveys of the general population and of U.S. health care practitioners and organizations on knowledge, attitudes, practices, programs, and policies related to various aspects of cancer prevention and control. She also is responsible for an extramural research program to improve the utilization, delivery, and outcomes of colorectal cancer screening in the U.S. She is author or co-author of over 70 articles published in peer-reviewed journals on clinical epidemiology and health services research related to cancer.
