H.F.A. Vasen


 

Hans Vasen joined the staff of the Department of Gastroenterology in the Leiden University Medical Centre in 1985 at the same time as becoming Medical Director of The Netherlands Foundation for the Detection of Hereditary Tumours. He qualified in General Internal Medicine from the University Medical Center in Utrecht and completed his thesis entitled "Screening for hereditary tumours" in 1989 at the University of Utrecht. From 1985-2000 he was a staff member of the department of Endocrinology at the University Medical Center, Utrecht. Clinically his interest lies mainly in the detection and surveillance of patients with inherited gastrointestinal syndromes (e.g. Lynch syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis and hereditary pancreatic cancer) and translating the genetic knowledge into clinical practice in close collaboration with the department of clinical and human genetics and pathology at the LUMC.

He currently holds, and has previously held, numerous positions on the board of national and international societies for the study of hereditary tumours. He is administrative director of the International Society for Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumours (InSiGHT), chairman of several national collaborative study groups and has been Editor-in-Chief of Familial Cancer (Springer publishers) since 2000.
